In early June percussion clinics are held at St. Edward. A few weeks later auditions (for placement with the section - everyone is accepted) are held. Follow the link at the bottom of this page to view percussion audition materials.
The marching percussion has two sections, battery and front ensemble. The batterie are snare drums, tenor drums (multi-toms) and bass drums (also occasionally cymbals) who march on the field with the rest of the band. The front ensemble, also known as pit, consist of mallet percussion (marimbas, vibraphones, xylophone, bells) and auxiliary instruments (gongs, hand drums, etc.).
Because of the highly specialized nature of the music they perform, the percussion sections have individualized sectionals during the summer.
